Carnegie, Pennsylvania, is a borough in Allegheny County, about five miles southwest of downtown Pittsburgh via I-376. It was incorporated on March 1, 1894, when the boroughs of Chartiers and Mansfield merged across Chartiers Creek and took the name of Andrew Carnegie, who thanked the town with a $200,000 gift to build the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall, opened in 1901 and still anchoring Beechwood Avenue today. Baseball Hall of Famer Honus Wagner called Carnegie home. The borough is best known now for its walkable Main Street district, where restaurants, coffee shops, and a working theater fill storefronts on both sides of the creek. Students attend the Carlynton School District, and the Borough of Carnegie keeps residents connected to local services and events.
